EOW Kashmir chargesheets habitual offender in fake job fraud case | KNO

Srinagar, Aug 22 (KNO): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K on Saturday said it had filed a chargesheet against a Kupwara man for allegedly cheating a person of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing a government job and furnishing a fake appointment order. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the EOW Kashmir had filed the chargesheet against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Ab. Rahim Mir, resident of Lashtiyal Kalaroos, Kupwara, before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kupwara, in case FIR No. 18/2026 under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 201 RPC. He said the case pertains to a written complaint alleging that the accused had cheated the complainant of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing a government job and, in furtherance of the deception, had furnished him with a fake and forged appointment order purportedly issued by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, J&K Bank. “Accordingly, a probe was ordered, and on the basis of the facts and evidence brought on record during the investigation, the allegations were found to be established and the case was concluded as proved. Consequently, the chargesheet has been presented before the Hon’ble Court for judicial determination.” The spokesperson said Abdul Majeed Mir is a known habitual offender and has been involved in 15 different criminal cases across the Kashmir Valley. He was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is presently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar in connection with FIR No. 12/2026 of Police Station Economic Offences Wing Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K. “The Crime Branch has advised the public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and report any suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir. Victims may also lodge complaints through email at sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in,” the spokesperson said—(KNO)
